Brian Prothero

Brian died peacefully at his Cefn Coed home on the 10th April. He had suffered with respiratory problems for many years, having had a lung removed when he was in his forties after contracting cancer. At that time the surgery was performed at Llandough Hospital in Cardiff, where he shared a ward with the legendary snooker player, Doug Mountjoy.

Brian worked in heavy engineering in a Dowlais Foundry until his late 40s.

In more recent times, Brian would be found on the banks of Redhill, Cefn Mably, Mathern Mill, and most recently his favourite haunt, White Springs, where Paddy Payne offered much help and support.

His association with Redhill goes back to its' beginnings, and Brian fished many matches there over the years, with no little success. Whether it was with Merthyr, Aberglais, Sirhowy or the regular Wednesday Opens, Brian would be there, with his friend Mike Yandle always on hand to help him to his peg.

He always had a willing smile, and was always helpful with tips and info for newcomers. He will be sorely missed by his family, and his many fishing friends.

Thank you to another great friend of Brian's, Graham Davies, for giving us this information.
